Let’s Cup Colombia!

Published 24 May 2022

We love tasting coffees from our roasting community and one of our favourite ways to do that is through our regular Let’s Cup events. Get excited because it’s time to celebrate Colombia!

We’re inviting roasters who have purchased Colombian coffees through Melbourne Coffee Merchants to send us their roasts of the coffees, which we’ll cup and consider as a team. Participating roasters will receive samples of all of the submitted coffees to taste and compare at their own convenience.

Colombia is one of the most important origins we work in – due to the quality, versatility and almost year-round availability of the coffees available. It’s a country with a wide array of growing regions, each with its own unique topography, micro-climate and history of coffee production, resulting in diverse and distinct regional attributes to each coffee lot we source.

For our most recent shipment, we worked closely with our supply partners, Pergamino, who connected us to communities in the growing regions of AponteBuesacoPompeya and San Francisco, whose clean and refined small producer regional blends shone brightly on the cupping table. With Pergamino’s help, we were also able to further develop relationships with talented, independent producers like Reinaldo ParraMiguel Loaiza and Eduardo Chasoy – all who grow and process exceptional micro-lots on their small farms.

While it’s been a challenging couple of years for the Colombian coffee industry, the lots we have received over the last year have been juicy and intensely sweet, with great clarity and elegance. We can’t wait to taste these coffees from our roasting customers, and to celebrate the hard work and skill of our producing partners during our very first Let’s Cup Colombia!

– SUBMIT A COFFEE –

If you are currently roasting a Colombian coffee sourced via Melbourne Coffee Merchants, we would love for you to participate by sending 500g of roasted coffee by close of business TUESDAY 7th MAY.

Please note our (newish) office address:

Melbourne Coffee Merchants

In return, we will send you the samples of each of the submitted coffees for you to taste and share cupping feedback and context for the coffees.

– JOIN US AS WE CUP –

In respect of the health and safety of our team and customers, we will not be holding a public cupping event for this year’s Let’s Cup Colombia. However, we will be sharing stories and videos of our cupping via Instagram and everyone is invited to tune in! Join us as we cup the coffees and share our thoughts and tasting notes:
