¡Hola Guate!
Published 11 June 2024
It’s been another exciting week at MCM HQ, with our first Guatemalan container for 2024 landing! The lots included in this shipment were grown on the outskirts of the historic town of Antigua Guatemala, on exceptionally fertile soils that lie at the foothills of three volcanoes.
These coffees were produced by two of our longest standing supply partners and dear friends: Ricardo Zelaya of the stunning Santa Clara Estate, and Rony Asensio & Lucia Zelaya, who own and manage neighbouring La Soledad.
We love the arrival of fresh Guatemalan offerings! The coffees are tasting fresh and vibrant, & will soon begin to make their way out to roasters around Australia. For those with reserves, get in touch to book your delivery — and read on to learn more about both lots.
Excited for the rest of our Guatemalan shipments? Keep an eye on our newsletter, as our full line up will be released in the coming weeks — we can’t wait to share it with you!
La Soledad | Antigua Guatemala
Owned by Lucia Zelaya and managed by husband Rony Asensio, La Soledad is a beautiful estate that produces an elegant and refined coffee, thanks to Rony’s meticulous farming and processing practices. With notes of pear, milk chocolate and hazlenut praline and a soft malic acidity, this lot is incredibly versatile — thanks to its creamy texture and lingering florals!

Santa Clara Estate | Antigua Guatemala
Ricardo Zelaya is a progressive fourth-generation farmer who has been perfecting his growing and processing techniques over the fifteen years we have been working with him. His coffee is always incredibly sweet and clean, and this year’s crop is no different! This rich and balanced coffee has a silky mouthfeel, with red apple, candied orange and dark chocolate — perfectly suited to all roasting styles!.
