Celebrating Piatã!
Published 15 February 2022
We’re super excited to be sharing this year’s offerings from Piatã: a uniquely privileged producing region located on a high plateau in the Chapada Diamantina mountain range, in Brazil’s Bahia State. The outstanding line up of fresh crop lots has just been added our offer list, and we have a limited amount of pre-shipment samples to share ahead of the coffees landing across April and May.
The rolling green hills that surround the small town of Piatã are home to a community of independent and quality-focused small holder coffee farmers. The high elevations, cool climate and nutrient rich soil of the area are ideal for the production of outstanding coffees, with great complexity and cup character. The skill, experience and hard work of the producers complement the geographical advantages of Piatã, resulting in exceptional coffees that have earned an international reputation for excellence.
Coffees grown here are distinct from many others that we source from Brazil, with typical characteristics including soft florals, tropical fruit and winey acidity. In short, they are delicious! This year’s offerings includes lots from our long time producing partners Antônio and Terezhina Rigno (of Sâo Judas Tadeau), Kleumon Moreira (of Sitio Canaã) and our dear friend and supplier, Silvio Leite (of Cerca de Pedra São Benedito, pictured above), who connects us to this incredible region. We are so excited to share them with our coffee community here at home!
Check out the offer list for more information on the incoming lots, and reach out anytime to request samples or learn more about this unique producing region. Read more about our Brazil sourcing program here.
