Jambo Kenya!

Published 20 June 2023

It’s been a huge week at our Brunswick East HQ, as our latest shipment of fresh crop Kenyan coffees just landed! Our team has been head down in the cupping room, tasting through the lots to ensure they meet our strict quality standards before dispatching them out to customers.

We’re thrilled to report the coffees are tasting vibrant and distinct – the lots have now all been approved and will begin making their way out to customers around Australia. For those with reserves, give us a call or shoot us an email to book your delivery!

This year’s line-up was sourced during our visit to Kenya in February, with assitance from our longtime partners at Kenyacof. Through their affiliated marketing agent, Sucastainability, their team connects us to quality- focused cooperatives and several independent, smallholder farmers who grow and process outstanding coffees outside of the cooperative system. We were excited to visit and catch up with many of our producing partners during our trip, and are delighted to share there coffees with our Australian community now.

Though many of our offerings have now sold out, we still have a handful of bags available from three quality-focused washing stations which we expect to move quickly. Read on to learn more about these lots, and get in touch to request samples if you’re keen to have a taste!

Gachuiro AB | Nyeri County

Located in Kenya’s famed Nyeri County, Gachuiro is one of four washing stations (or factories, as they are called in Kenya) owned and operated by the Kiama Farmers’ Cooperative Society (FCS). We love this coffee’s notes of guava, Pink Lady apple and rooibos tea, along with its syrupy body. Its vibrant tropical acidity is best showcased through manual brewing methods—but don’t let that stop you from featuring it on batch!

Kiangundo AB | Nyeri County

Gachuiro’s sister factory, Kiangundo, is another of Kiama FCS’ sites, located in Nyeri’s beautiful highlands. Kiangundo receives cherry from 615 of the cooperative’s members, and processes it using fresh water from the nearby Ragati river. This year’s crop is full bodied and juicy, with golden syrup, peach and green apple. It’s a delightful coffee that will shine through all filter methods, and will make for an elegant single espresso.

Wahundura AB | Murang’a County

Built in the 1960s, Wahundura factory is located in Murang’a County, in the foothills of Mt. Kenya. It is one of four stations owned by the Kamachiria FCS, and services 1,326 local farmers who grow coffee trees locally. This lot jumped out at us on the cupping table for its clean and juicy profile and impeccable structure. Its lemon-lime acidity and notes of redcurrant and ruby grapefruit make it the perfect candidate for manual pour over brewing.

We’re so excited to share these delicious coffees with vou. For those with existing reservations, expect dispatch updates from the team over the next few days; and it you’ve already requested samples, sit tight and we’ll get them to you as soon as they are available!
