Spotlight on: Testi Specialty Coffee
Since 2018, we’ve been sourcing Ethiopian offerings from Testi Specialty Coffee, a family-owned and operated exporting company whose washing stations produce some the country’s cleanest and most distinct lots.
Published 29 July 2025
Having grown up at his father’s coffee farm, founder Faysel Abdosh Yonis established the business in 2009 to honour and celebrate his family’s heritage. Today, he runs Testi with the help of other close relatives (including son Fahmi Faysel, pictured above, and nephew Yisak Yonis), and a stellar team spread across 28 processing sites, to ensure his family’s legacy lives on for generations to come.
This people-focused approach to coffee business has also led Mr. Faysel to invest in the wellbeing of the thousands of outgrowers that deliver cherry to Testi’s sites. To date, the company has funded the construction of multiple education centres and access roads, and spearheaded many infrastructure projects that have given farmers better access to electricity and water.
Given how much our values align, we’re always thrilled to feature Testi’s coffees on our offer list. Read below for more on their freshly landed lots, and get in touch if you’re keen to taste the full line up!
Jigesa Washed | Shakisso, Guji
As the first site established by Testi, Jigesa washing station holds a special place in the company’s operations. Every harvest, we look forward to the elegant washed lots processed here, with this year’s crop presenting lifted honeysuckle florals, with pineapple, green apple and honey.
Werka Natural | Nensebo, West Arsi
Having been catapulted to the spotlight through the country’s Cup of Excellence competition, the West Arsi region produces some of Ethiopia’s most sought after coffees. Processed at Aash washing station, this clean and transparent naturally-processed lot is fruit-forward and floral, with Concord grape, apricot and condensed milk sweetness in the cup.
Ayla Bombe Washed | Bensa, Sidama
Named after one of Mr. Faysel’s nieces, Ayla washing station is a perennial crowd favourite, as it produces incredibly floral and pretty washed offerings. This lot comes from outgrowers who farm in the nearby kebele of Bombe, and it’s a joy to drink thanks to its vibrant mandarin acidity and notes of raspberry cordial, plum and black tea.
Hadeso Washed | Shakisso, Guji
Thanks to its rich texture and punchy, vibrant flavour profile, coffee from Hadeso washing station performs beautifully across all brewing applications. This lot’s creamy texture and notes of white nectarine, Nashi pear and orange are perfect for those who can’t decide between adding a filter or espresso offering to their line up.
Hadeso Natural | Shakisso, Guji
Much like its washed process counterpart, Hadeso Natural has a creamy, velvety texture that works perfectly across filter and espresso offerings. Presenting rose hip florals, tropical acidity, and notes of white peach and strawberry, pairing both Hadeso lots is the perfect opportunity to compare and contrast the impact processing has on a coffee’s flavour.
