Introducing our new sample bags!
This week, many of you will get your first look at our new sample bags!

For some time now, we’ve been researching and testing packaging options that maintain the quality of the green and roasted coffee we send out to customers, while having a reduced environmental impact and the ability to be recycled. The search has taken us longer than expected because, on one end of the spectrum, most of the materials that best keep the quality of our coffee have historically been produced in ways that are quite taxing on the environment, and made to be disposed of after a single use. At the opposite end, when testing materials that were easier to recycle, we noticed the quality of our samples degraded faster, impacting the flavour of the cup.
We’ve known for years that our sample bags could, and should, be better — which is why we’re so excited to have found a product that has helped us achieve this. For our new sample bags, we’ve chosen to use soft plastic made from up to 85% post-consumer recycled material. It’s certified for food contact, and importantly, keeps our coffee tasting great long after we have shipped it to you. By investing in bags made of recycled materials, we’re also contributing to a more circular economy, in the hopes that it results in even better recycling systems and infrastructure in the short and long-term. We’ve also chosen to work with suppliers that offset the carbon emitted when producing our bags, further confirming we’ve made the right decision.
We feel great about this change and hope you love our new bags as much as we have! We also recognise our sustainability goals will keep evolving as we continue to improve our practices and even better materials become available. Over the coming weeks, we’ll provide you with a ‘Reply Paid’ address so that you can post these to us for recycling. Until then, you can either hand them back to us whenever you next see us, or you can recycle them in one of Soft Plastic Stewardship Australia’s collection locations.
