Get excited for Guatemala!

We’re thrilled to be adding this year’s Guatemalan spot line up to our offer list! The selection is made up of well-known favourites from the Zelaya family of Santa Clara Estate and the Valdés family of Santa Isabel, along with a few offerings sourced with the help of Prisma Coffee Origins.

As the home to our longest-standing supply relationships, Guate is very close to our hearts. Every year we look forward to the various flavour profiles produced in the country, from the intensely sweet coffees of Antigua, to the more floral lots we source from Huehuetenango — and all of them are on their way!

While we have limited pre-shipment samples available, our team are here to talk you through the line up and can take reservations based on your preferences, to be approved once the containers land across August and September. Keen to know what’s on the way? Read on to learn more about our available coffees.

Santa Clara Estate | Antigua Guatemala

We love the consistency and clarity of Santa Clara Estate, a result of owner Ricardo Zelaya’s conscientious farming and processing practices, and his team’s meticulous attention to detail. When your family has been growing coffee for more than a century, improving yields and quality is a huge responsibility — and over the years, we have seen Ricardo excel at both!

The latest crop of Santa Clara Estate is rounded and balanced, perfect for all brewing methods thanks to its orange acidity and notes of plum, hazelnut praline and milk chocolate.

Santa Isabel Estate ‘Las Flores’ | Cobán

Made up of the most floral and complex day lots cupped during the harvest by Santa Isabel Estate’s QC team, their ‘Las Flores’ microlot is bright and perfumed with stone fruit sweetness and notes of green apple, honey and black tea. The coffee makes for a delightful filter offering, while also having plenty of richness to cut through milk when roasted for espresso.

Magarciy | Atitlán

Back in the 1960s, José Ramírez Sr. left his career as a transport driver to grow coffee on the shores of the stunning Lake Atitlán. His farm Magarciy has since become an impressive family-run business that includes a 15-hectare plantation with numerous plots, a pristine wet mill, and a commercial operation that sources and processes coffee cherry from local smallholder farmers.

This is our first time working with the Ramírez family’s coffee, after falling in love with its notes of hibiscus and Cherry Ripe, brown sugar sweetness and rich mouthfeel on the cupping table.

La Soledad | Antigua Guatemala

Ana Lucía Zelaya and Rony Asensio are a dynamic duo in Guatemala’s coffee industry, as they both come from families who have a long history with the crop. The great structure and delicate florals of their La Soledad make it a standout Antigua coffee. Its notes of lemon, apricot and dark chocolate shine as a filter or black espresso offering, that also presents toasted almond and caramel through milk.

Guacamaya | Huehuetenango

Nestled in the steep hills of Concepción Huista, Huehuetenango, producer Nery Pablo López tends to four hectares of Caturra and Bourbon with the help of his father and extended family. This is our fourth year sourcing his coffee through Prisma’s relationship with the forward-thinking El Sendero Cooperative. We’re loving its creamy body, mandarin acidity and notes of toffee apple, stone fruit and black tea.

Calahute Maragogype | Huehuetenango

While we’ve been featuring coffee from Alfonso Anzueto’s farm, Calahute, since 2019, this is our first time offering one of his rare variety lots. This one is 100% maragogype, a large bean mutation of Typica that packs a punch! This distinct and floral coffee has a winey mouthfeel that is perfectly complemented by flavours of apricot, strawberry and dark chocolate — a perfect showcase offering for your filter bar!
