Get Excited for Guatemala!

Published 23 May 2023

We have just added 2023’s fresh crop Guatemalan offerings to our list! This selection offers a wide range of coffee lots, with distinct cup profiles and price points, from some of Guatemala’s most distinguished coffee-producing families and growing regions. We’re so excited to share them with our roasting community here at home – get in touch now if you’re keen to taste samples ahead of the coffees landing next month and in early August!

Guatemalan coffees have been a staple of MCM’s offerings since our very early days of operation. We love the different and delicious flavour profiles that we are able to find in Guatemala – a result of the incredible range of microclimates that exist across each of the country’s coffee-growing regions.

We were so excited to be back in Guatemala to select this year’s offerings, and are thrilled with final the line up! We believe these lots offer outstanding quality and value, and will perform well across all roast styles and bewing applications. Head here to learn more about our recent trip, and read below for an overview of our incoming shipments.

We’re expecting our first shipment to land as early as next month, thanks to the agility and hard work of our producing partners’ logistics teams! The coffees included in the first container were grown and processed by the Zelaya family, and include lots from Santa Clara Estate and La Soledad. Our second container to land will arrive in late June, and is made up of three very special selections from Wicho Valdés of Santa Isabel Estate and a large volume line grown and processed by the Palacios family of La
Providencia
.

Our third and final container is due to land in early August, and includes a handful of exquisite Gesha variety lots from Santa Clara Estate: two Malawi Geshas (one washed, one natural) and a Panama Gesha. Because Ricardo is one of the most respected producers in Antigua, these coffees have developed quite the following over the years, and we are excited to have the full selection available on our line up!

The rest of that final container is made up of offerings sourced with the help of export partner Prisma Coffee Origins, who connect us to a number of producers and cooperatives in Guatemala’s growing regions. This includes fan favourite Calahute, a special selection from Mauricio Rosales’ La Maravilla, and a new lot to MCM from El Sendero Cooperative, all found in Huehuetenango. It also contains a handful of bags of a washed Paname Gesha lot from renowned Agua Tibia in the Fraijanes region, a stunning lot that perfectly showcases the variety’s ability to thrive in Guatemalan terroir.

For these dedicated professionals, coffee is much more than a cash crop – it is a family tradition and a great source of pride. They are incredibly passionate and knowledgeable about the coffees they grow and the land they work on, and are deeply invested in preserving their future. We feel privileged to have worked with some of these producing partners for over a decade, and we believe these versatile coffees represent their skill and expertise.
