Read on to learn more about these outstanding coffees…

GUATEMALA

After falling in love with the Gesha variety in 2008, our good friend Ricardo Zelaya decided to plant it on the highest parts of his farm Santa Clara – with incredible results. We’re currently featuring two of these lots from the 2023 crop:

Santa Clara Gesha Natural

After tasting the Gesha variety in 2008, and being blown away by its complex cup profile, Ricardo Zelaya decided to plant some on the highest parts of his farm, to incredible results. He has only recently started processing some of the crop as a natural lot, to highlight the variety’s intense sweetness and creamy texture. With notes of grilled peach and black tea, this showcase coffee is perfect for all who love the variety.

Santa Clara Panama Gesha

Realising Santa Clara Estate’s highest plots of land were perfectly suited to the Gesha variety, Ricardo decided to source & plant seeds from Panama’s Finca La Esmeralda , which are considered one of the best examples of the variety grown anywhere in the world. This is only the second year he’s produced this intensely floral & delicate lot, with notes of white peach, sugarcane and elderflower.

ETHIOPIA

During our trip to Ethiopia earlier this year, we were able to secure a set of unique, specially-prepared microlots that represent the very best of our supply partner Testi’s production. These include the following two meticulously processed lots from Testi’s premium sites, contributed to by local outgrowers who farm coffee under extremely favourable conditions:

Yaye Natural Anaerobic

At Yaye washing station, Testi have developed a special technique that combines anaerobic fermentation and natural processing, using coffee cherry from some 300 independent outgrowers from the kebeles surrounding the nearby Tulecha mountain. By carefully fermenting perfectly ripe cherry, Testi have produced a lot that is complex and tropical, with notes of  lychee and umeshu, and a dark chocolate finish.

Adorsi Natural Anaerobic

Located in the Yirgacheffe woreda, Adorsi was acquired by Testi in 2018 to operate as a premium site. This micro-lot is traceable to the kebele of Aricha & was fermented anaerobically & processed as a natural — resulting in a coffee with great intensity, winey acidity & notes of concord grape and plum.

BOLIVIA

Last year, our good friends the Rodríguez family of Agricafe Bolivia had a great harvest in the region of Samaipata, which, combined with their novel processing techniques, resulted in some truly memorable coffee lots. We have one of these stunning lots available now:

Floripondio Batian Natural

Floripondio’s high elevation, tropical microclimate and distinct soil profile has made it the ideal place for Agricafe to establish their nursery in, which is made up of over 50 different coffee varieties. Through years of research and careful farming, the Rodríguez family have found Kenyan variety Batian to be an excellent performer under Floripondio’s conditions. Processed as a natural, this lot has notes of bright blueberry, maraschino cherry and Amaretto liqueur, with a creamy texture – delicious!

We’re thrilled to be offering such a special selection of coffee lots, as they are perfect examples of the commitment to quality and innovation of our producing partners. Get in touch to request samples — and while you’re at it, let us know if you’re in town for the show. We’d love to catch up!
