Let’s Cup! Ethiopia

Published 28 November 2023

We adore tasting coffees from our roasting community and one of our favourite ways to do that is through our regular Let’s Cup! events. Get excited because we’re celebrating beautiful Ethiopia!

Rightfully regarded as a favourite for coffee lovers, Ethiopian coffees hold a special place in our collective hearts. This year’s season was made up of some stunning washed, natural and anearobically processed lots from our long-time supply partners at Testi Coffee, and single producer lots sourced via the Lalisaa Project. We’re expecting good things from this Let’s Cup! and we’d love for you to join!

We’re inviting roasters who have purchased Ethiopian coffees through MCM to send us their roasts of the coffees, which we’ll cup and evaluate as a team. Participating roasters will receive samples of all of the submitted coffees to taste and compare at their own convenience.

This season, we were delighted to strengthen our supply partnership with Testi Specialty Coffee by visiting them during the harvest. Testi own or manage production at some of our favourite washing stations, including JigesaWerka and Hadeso, and whose washed and natural lots have consistently stood out on our cupping table. We also featured a few delicious single producer offerings, including lots from farmers Wako Aba and Addisu Hulichaye

Overall, we were blown away by the high quality and complexity of this year’s coffees! We are so excited to taste them from our roasting customers, and to celebrate the hard work and skill of our producing partners during this year’s Let’s Cup! event.

– SUBMIT A COFFEE –

If you are currently roasting an Ethiopian coffee sourced via Melbourne Coffee Merchants, we would love for you to participate by sending 500g of roasted coffee by close of business TUES 12th DECEMBER.

In return, we will send you the samples of each of the submitted coffees for you to taste and share cupping feedback and context for the coffees.

– JOIN US AS WE CUP –

As the end-of-the-year madness approaches, we’ve decided to hold this year’s Let’s Cup! Ethiopia event online, rather than host a public cupping event. Contributing roasters will still have the opportunity to cup every submitted coffee, and for everyone else we’ll be sharing stories and videos of our cupping via Instagram and everyone is invited to tune in! Join us as we cup the coffees and share our thoughts and tasting notes:
